Patrick Schjelderup

Maritime At-Large

Patrick grew up in Bellingham on the waterfront with his father, Roger Schjelderup, who has owned a business on the port since 1986. They would take boat rides through the San Juan Islands, go camping on places like Lummi, Sucia and Orcas Island all while fishing or crabbing at the same time. Through his childhood and high school, he would help Rodger with the daily business at Top to Bottom Inc., doing jobs such as washing/waxing boats, scuba diving and desk work when appropriate. That was Patrick’s starting point of understanding how the economy of the port functioned, and he continues to learn and lead in it today. The waterfront has been an important part of his upbringing and he wishes to preserve it so the next generation can have the experience he did, both commercially and recreationally.
