The Coastal Communities Transparency Act

The Coastal Communities Transparency Act is a bill in the WA State Legislature for 2025-2026's short session. The bill adds amendments to existing RCW 35.21 and 7.48, creating disclosure notice requirements for real property transactions and developments within 1/2 mile of maritime and industrial zoning in WA state.

These notices would be similar in form to existing requirements for both 'working forest' land, and agricultural operations in the state. It also is precedented by requirements for disclosure nearby commercial airports at the county level for each county in the state having a commercial airport.

These notices serve to provide transparency and information to homebuyers and developers regarding the neighborhoods and areas where they choose to build. They also provide awareness that helps communities have conversations on zoning and development that ultimately helps to preserve the job opportunities and economic diversity and vitality that is brought by our robust maritime and industrial sectors in WA state.
